Walcha Council will take $30,000 from the latest round of community infrastructure funding unveiled at the Australian Council of Local Government meeting in Canberra last week.

Councils in the New England and North West will share an extra $2 million under the latest round of Commonwealth funding.

The Tamworth Regional Council will get the lion’s share of more than $500,000, Narrabri will get almost $250,000, Moree nearly $200,000, Inverell $210,000 and Guyra council the balance of $30,000 to go towards community infrastructure projects.

Council general manager Jack O’Hara, said council will have a little more time to plan for the latest round of funding and will discuss appropriate projects at the next council meeting.

“We could always do with more but we’re very pleased to see the second round of the community infrastructure program rolled out,” he said.

“It’s also a recognition of the importance the Commonwealth places in local government.”
