THE Walcha Dairy has produced more than five million litres of milk since the first cows walked on to the 80-cow, fully computerised rotary dairy platform in September last year.
The dairy, located south of Walcha on the Gloucester Road, has been unaffected by the global economic crisis that caused milk prices to crash in Australia and overseas.
Operations manager John Crittenden said the diary has a milk contract that was locked in before the economic downturn, and still has several months left.
“We have been on premium payments from day one,” Mr Crittenden said. “The fat content is running at an average of 3.8 per cent and protein is also averaging 3.8 per cent with the semetic cell count averaging 150,000, which is excellent and has ensured premium payments.
“We have an excellent management system in place to ensure the highest quality milk.”
Milking cows and dry stock totalling 1200 head are run on the dairy, formerly known as Dumby Park, which was sown to rye and clover pastures in the first half of 2008.
