Firefighters show skills

18 Sep, 2009 04:00 AM
NSW Rural fire Service (RFS) volunteer fire fighters from Walcha, Uralla, Armidale and Guyra are gathering at the Walcha Showground on Saturday, to practice their craft at the New England Zone Exercise. In a series of scenarios they will test their skills and equipment.

The public are invited to attend the event, which will begin at 9am and witness some of the equipment being used by the RFS volunteers and are able to ask questions about fire safety.

Exercises such as these help fire fighters maintain their skill levels and ensure they are in the best position for the fire season ahead. People are welcome to drop into the Walcha Showground during the day. There will be displays for people to see and fire fighters will be available to speak with them. Also it is a good opportunity for anyone to get information about preparing their property in case of a bush fire.

If anyone is interested in volunteering with the Rural fire Service they will be able to get information on the day.
