The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) has advised Walcha Council of the availability of $15,000 funding from its Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP) program to assist with the construction of pedestrian access facilities in 2010/11.
Council will accept the funds and match them to provide pedestrian accesses to the levee bank footpath currently under construction as part of the Walcha Flood Levee Modification project.
In past years, Walcha Council has used PAMP funding to assist with the construction of pedestrian ramps and blisters in Middle Street and to extend the foot paving in Hamilton and South Streets.
Capping of the Apsley River levee crest as a flood erosion protection measure has been funded from the NSW Emergency Managements Natural Disaster Mitigation program.
“If this capping is to be used as a pedestrian footpath, there is a need for the provision of adequate access to and from various locations along its route,” said Walcha Council director of engineering services Steve McCoy.
Council agreed to match the PAMP funds from its allocation to the Walcha Levee Bank Modification project and construct pedestrian accesses to the Levee Footpath at Fitzroy, Middle, Lagoon, Angle and Croudace Streets; Walcha Central School and John Oxley Cairn Reserve.
