THE Lions Club of Walcha donated $3600 towards the Relay for Life to bring the fundraising tally for last month’s event to about $70,000.
Lions president Bruce Davidson and Lion Alex Smith made the presentation to secretary of the Walcha relay for Life Kate Hoy on Tuesday.
The money was raised at the canteen run over the Relay for Life on September 19 and 20.
Mr Davidson took the opportunity to thank Mr Smith for organising and ordering all the food and drinks for the canteen as well as organising the roster for other volunteers including Rotary, Quota, Rugby, Fishing, and tennis clubs. He also thanked the Lions ladies and Robyn Watts and others who kindly donated goods for the canteen.
Mr Davidson said he would like to thank all the clubs for their time and effort and their input into the canteen for the worthy cause on that weekend.
Once again it is coming up to that time of year and the Lions have their Christmas cakes for sale in the following outlets Market Fresh, Mountain Motors, Walcha Ex Services Club, Walcha Post office, Walcha Bowling Club, National bank, Commonwealth Bank and Westpac Bank.
Mr Smith is still on the lookout for used stamps and spectacles as this is an ongoing project. Items can be left at Market Fresh or the Walcha Library or contact Alex on 6777 2195 and he will arrange to pick them up.
The Lions club members and the Lions ladies would like to thank everyone who supported the club throughout the year and would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe new year.
