Lions welcome new members

23 Oct, 2009 04:00 AM
Lions Club of Walcha celebrated its 52nd birthday dinner last Saturday night at the Walcha Bowling Club. Over 50 people attended including Lions District Governor Christine Woolnough from Port Macquarie.

On the night three new members were inducted into the Lions Club John Crittenden, Peter McIvor and Peter Struck.

Walcha Council general manager Jack O’Hara congratulated the club on the amount of hard work they do for the Walcha community. “They are the unsung heroes of our community, there are not many events in the district that they are not involved in,” he said.

Just to name a few of the events that the Lions club have been involved in so far this year are Catering for the Woolbrook Festival, Relay for Life, and catering lunch for over 40 children from Inland on their way to Camp Elim at the coast over the long weekend. The Lions club also generously sponsored 27 children from Walcha to attend the camp.
