Walcha once again has its full complement of police officers with Senior Constable Ron Waters joining the team.
Senior Constable Waters always has worked in regional areas and is keen to get to know the town and community.
His first day in Walcha was on Monday, but he has spent eight weeks in Tamworth getting used to the NSW police system.
Prior to joining the NSW Police Service, Senior Constable
Waters was a member of the South Australian police for eight years.
He has held general duties and highway patrol positions. Before becoming a police officer he was employed as a youth worker.
He will be living in Tamworth with his wife and children, but despite travelling for work plans to get involved in the local community.
“I like all sports, particularly AFL and league,” Senior
Constable Waters said. “At the moment I’m just getting
the lay of the land so to speak, but my goal is to get involved in the community.
“I’ve worked in a lot of small towns and it’s good to build a relationship with members of the community and become involved with events and activities.
“Even in the short time I’ve been here I’ve found Walcha to be friendly - it’s got a positive feel.”
Sergeant Betterridge said it was great to have a full team again, but not for long as Senior Constable Michael Cartwright would leave his position in Nowendoc next month.
“The position has been advertised but we expect it could take six months to fill the role at Nowendoc,” Sergeant Betterridge said.
“Senior Constable Cartwright has been in Nowendoc for about five years and he and his family will be sorely missed when they leave, but we wish them all the best for the future.”
