Playground upgrade

03 Jul, 2009 04:00 AM
Walcha Council will receive $20,000 from the State Government to provide shade and replace the soft fall in the children’s playground at McHattan Park.

Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay has welcomed $80,000 in additional funding to revamp Council-maintained children’s play areas in Walcha, Inverell, Emmaville and Guyra.

The funding will be used to upgrade existing playgrounds and each project has been allocated $20,000.

Mr Torbay said this funding was an important boost in creating safe and attractive areas where children can enjoy being active outdoors.

“Playgrounds in our communities are an important place where young children can be active and enjoy outdoors fun,” Mr Torbay said. “It is important that these Council-maintained areas be made as fun, interesting and as safe as possible, this funding will help those Councils achieve this.”
