On a stifling hot day, the red and white army marched down the hill desperate to bring the silverware back to it’s home in the Walcha clubhouse.
In front of a big crowd the Rams played an outstanding game last Saturday to bring home Walcha’s first reserve grade premiership since 1990.
After 20 years, the Rams’ obsession to win was tangible and reflected in the team’s training, passion on the field and the will to win against overwhelming odds.
It was an extremely physical start with each pack trading blow for blow in an attempt to gain some sort of forward supremacy in the match. The Rams heavy workload in recent weeks had taken a toll physically and mentally, while the Pirates had a week off to rest. They looked to be the fresher of the two teams with plenty of possession early on in the game.
However the Rams’ defence was well organised. After being unable to crack the red and white wall the Pirates used a penalty goal to get some points on the board.
Shortly after, Josh ‘Shorty’ Steel put on a bit of Jarrod Hayne like razzle dazzle to score in the corner and put the Rams ahead.
