Thousands of Relay For Life participants throughout Walcha and the North West will put their purple shirts back on tomorrow to remember how they pledged to fight back against cancer.
On Friday December 2, Cancer Council NSW has invited everyone who has ever participated in a Relay For Life event to join Fight Back Friday - a day where we take action to defeat cancer.
It’s not a fundraising day but a day where we take one small step to cut our cancer risk. It could be quitting smoking, pledging to eat healthier or start doing some physical activity for 30 minutes every day.
Cancer Council’s Alysia Norris said Fight Back was one of three important aspects of the Relay For Life experience.
“At Relay For Life, we Celebrate our survivors and carers and Remember those we have lost to cancer. But Fight Back is what we take away from Relay, what we pledge to do to reduce our cancer risk or help improve the lives of people affected by cancer,” she said. “This could be as simple as making sure we wear sunscreen every day
or cutting how much alcohol we consume.”
Since 2007, the communities of Walcha, Armidale, Barraba, Bingara, Boggabri, Bundarra, Glen Innes, Gunnedah, Inverell, Liverpool Plains, Manilla, Moree, Mungindi, Narrabri, Tamworth, Tenterfield, Warialda and
Wee Waa have all shared the Relay For Life experience.
Mrs Norris said everyone could fight back against cancer, even if they have never attended a Relay For
Life.
