School seeks support for 150-year celebration

12/12/2008 3:00:00 AM
Next April, Walcha Central School will celebrate 150 years and they would like everyone in the community to be part of this milestone event.

In preparation for the sesquicentenary festivities organisers are asking for old school uniforms, photographs and any other memorabilia to be loaned to the school for display purposes. All material will be returned to the owners after the event.

Old school bell commemorative pavers will be available for purchase at a cost of $25. The money raised will contribute to the raising of the old school bell within the school grounds and the pavers placed in the surrounding garden. Pavers must be ordered by the end of January.

Foodworks and IGA have sponsored the production of commemorative enviro shopping bags and these will be available in the new year for $2 each.

The activities planned for the celebration include a commemorative assembly on Friday April 3, attended by the director general of education, with a supper ball that evening and street parade on the Saturday morning, followed by a school fete.

For more information or to order pavers contact Carnie Kermode, Mary Kuhr, John Williams or Linda Lockyer.
