Silver medal dive

23 Oct, 2009 03:00 AM
Local diving competitor John Payne has won a silver medal in the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games.

The 74-year-old grazier was awarded the medal for his synchronised dive with fellow Australian Reg Morris, in the mixed synchronised 3 metre dive for men 70 years and over.

The synchronised dive event involves two divers performing three dives together for the judges. On their third dive, Payne and Morris achieved a nearly perfect score of 8.5, which was the top score awarded for synchronised diving.

The pair, who only decided to compete in the event after meeting at the games, performed a back dive with a half twist.
