31 Oct, 2008 04:00 AM
The future of the shire’s tourism is in safe hands with the appointment of Gemma Clarke as the towns new tourism manager.

Tourism development is contained within the economic development area of council and Ms Clarke is responsible for the overall marketing and tourism activities within the area, including tourism product development and management of the Visitor Information Centre.

“In my role as tourism manager I am looking forward to further promoting Walcha’s diverse tourism industry and working with tourism operators and suppliers,” Ms Clarke said.

Through liaison with tourism operators, neighbouring councils, Tourism NSW and the tourism industry generally, Ms Clarke will play a key role in the development of tourism activities within the area, ensuring at all times that each activity or product is at a suitably high standard.

“I have lived in the Walcha area for the last six years with my husband and three children,” said Ms Clarke.

“We run a successful beef cattle property in Niangala and our children who attend Niangala Primary School are all members of the Walcha Pony Camp.”

Prior to joining the Walcha Council Ms Clarke worked as a special projects co-ordinator for Tourism Tamworth’s marketing department.

“I have 20 years experience in tourism, travel and hospitality working at various locations and organisations including the Radisson Hotel Group, Quality Hotel Powerhouse Tamworth, Flight Centre and G and B Function Management,” said Ms Clarke.

“I have travelled throughout the Europe and the United States, have a Bachelor of Business in Tourism Marketing and I am currently completing my Diploma in Accountancy.”
