Michael Sweeney was announced as the senior sportsperson of the year for 2012 Michael has not only excelled in every sport he has participated in, but has been an active member of many committees of those sports.
His achievements have included attainment at the highest local level of squash, tennis, running and golf - including winning the coveted Gary Kelleher memorial trophy; he has also played cricket and touch football.
Michael is the current Walcha A grade senior squash champion for the fifth time and has won the Walcha men’s A grade tennis title no less than four times.
He is also a regular entrant in the annual Lions Footrace at the Walcha races and fundraising runs for the Westpac rescue helicopter, he has competed in the Tamworth 10 run, and is a member of the Walcha Jockey Club Committee.
Besides stamping himself as an outstanding all-round sportsman Michael has been very active on the Walcha Tennis Committee and was part of the team who were instrumental in having the new club house built. He also helps out the Rodeo Committee with the canteen roster for the Walcha Tennis Club.
Michael is a committee member of the Walcha Show Society and assists with the Sydney Royal Show Central District Exhibits.
