The Walcha Together committee has recently been incorporated and is now able to apply for project funding on behalf of community groups.
“It has taken a while to establish an executive committee and get incorporated,” said chairperson Katrina Blomfield.
“We also needed to tidy up the administration processes and procedures before we could start implementing projects.”
The first project Walcha Together will tackle is the development of a tourism business plan to support the Walcha Council’s three-year strategic business plan for Walcha.
To facilitate this, an interactive workshop will be held to identify Walcha’s assets, opportunities and challenges.
The workshop has been made possible with help from the Department of State and Regional Development (DSRD) and is open to everybody in the Walcha community.
“Walcha Together are inviting members of Council, business houses, volunteer organisations, sporting organisations, churches, artists, gardeners, school students, indigenous members of our community and any interested individuals to attend,” Mrs Blomfield said.
Samantha Muller from Muller Enterprises will facilitate the three-hour workshop.
“The aim of the workshop is to get ideas for Walcha’s future economic development, to enthuse our community and to develop a plan to make things happen in our town,” Mrs Blomfield said.
Council general manager Jack O’Hara said he was supportive of the initiative and encourages people to attend and have their say.
“This is a great opportunity for everyone to actively contribute to the economic development of our town,” Mr O’Hara said. “The ideas that are generated through this workshop will be fed into council for consideration and inclusion into the economic development plan.”
The workshop will be held on July 7 at the Walcha Golf Club from 5.30pm.
