Bowden takes out GJ Kelleher trophy

15 Jan, 2010 04:00 AM
On Boxing Day 2009 the Gary Joseph Kelleher Memorial Golf trophy was contested for the 14th time with left-handed A-grader Jamie Bowden awarded the prize after he accumulated 40 stabelford points.

Runner-up was Walcha Council general manager Jack O’Hara after he counted out multiple club champion Simeon Cross after both players finished on 37 points. Sweepstakes went to Doug McDonald 36 and Luke Brown 36 while current club champion Cheryl McDonald won the ladies division with 36 points.

Sharpest shooters at the pins were Tony Martin (3), Jenny Lisle (9), Jamie Love (16) and Tommy Kilner (18). Long drives went to Steph ‘Long John’ Sweeney and Cheryl McDonald.

The Kelleher clan winner was James Love 36 points after he finished five points clear of former title-holder Chris Kelleher.

Although there were a few showers during the day it didn’t dampen the spirit of those in attendance especially former Walcha members Tom Kilner who had travelled down from Warwick that morning with his brother ‘Doey’ to compete in the event.
