Bowls day a hit

21 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
THE Police Charity Bowls Day was hailed as a success by Walcha’s Sergeant Daniel Betterridge.

He said about 16 teams registered for the day, which raised money for Walcha Central School.

“A lot of people travelled from away to participate, including some retired police officers from the Newcastle region and a couple of inspectors from Tamworth,” he said.

The event raised about $4700 for the school, which was the most ever raised.

One of the regular participants, Ian Healey from Lochinvar, won the lollypops, by guessing 1023 - the correct number.

“The P and C did an amazing job on the catering,” he said.

Next year money raised by the the Police Charity Bowls Day will go to St Patrick’s School.
