An unconquered 37 run sixth wicket

partnership between schoolboy Brad Partridge and Anglican minister Keith McPherson spearheaded Kentucky to an unlikely victory against Rugby League last Saturday at John Oxley Sportsground.

Kentucky lost three wickets for just one run after they reached 2/110 but looked a lot more fragile at 5/111 chasing 146 with six overs remaining. Despite a few nervous moments Partridge put his team in the drivers seat belting veteran spinner Rob Laurie to the boundary off the first two deliveries of the final over of the match. Earlier evergreen opener Jamie Sweeney held his team’s innings together with a defiant 53 runs and skipper Tony Blake made 26 valuable runs before Partridge finished on 21 not out and McPherson 16 not out. Most successful of the League bowlers was Peter Mooney who captured 3/21 while fellow opener Steve Adams and Peter Boyd took the other two wickets. League decided to bat after winning the toss totalling 146 mainly due to Wayne Boyd

scoring 36 including five boundaries and Steve Adams notching up 26. Kentucky boss Blake snared 3/27 off ten tidy overs and fellow opener Greg Buckland took 2/20 to help restrict League to 45 runs at the 20 over drinks break.

In the other match Shane Young inspired Round Swamp to a six-wicket victory over Bowling Club when he returned the bowling figures of 5/31 off seven overs. He would have probably taken a few more wickets if Bowling Club had more than eight batsmen.

Bowling Club batted after winning the toss and got away to a good start when opener Chris Watts, in an aggressive mood put on 56 runs with Bob Jex in just eight overs. When Watts was caught by Barry Hoy in the deep he had scored 47 runs including five 4s and two 6s. Bowling Club lost their seven wickets for 23 runs to be bundled out for 81. In reply Swamp lost three wickets at regular intervals 37, 56 and 68 before arriving at the required total in the 18th over. Opener Steve Eveleigh top scored with 28 runs and veteran Barry Hoy chipped in 25 unbeaten runs. Wicket

takers for Bowling Club were Cameron Sweeney 2/19 and his younger brother Hayden 1/13.

This Saturday Swamp play Colts on the Park and League do battle with Bowling Club at John Oxley.
