Dust and mud at sprint series

03 Jul, 2009 04:00 AM
Almost 80 riders gathered at “Bannaweera”, west of Uralla, to contest the second round of the Armidale Motor Cycle Club’s (AMCC) Northern Inland Sprint Series (NISS) sponsored by TTT Mechanical, Walcha.

The day opened under cloudy skies but with a dry track riders were contemplating another day of dusty racing. But the dust was short-lived as rain settled in mid morning turning sections of the track to torrents. The wet conditions created poor visibility through wet and foggy goggles making the increasingly slippery track even more challenging.

The nippers spent their time building their skills through structured activities mixed with ample free time riding on a dedicated track.

Junior, senior and open riders contested challenging tracks seeking hard fought wins for points that accumulate for the annual club championships.

While the racing took place club coach Lee Marshall took another group of riders through their coaching which is required to secure a Motorcycling NSW license which enables them to ride at future AMCC events.

Despite the challenging conditions the day ran smoothly with a tired, but wet, group of riders and their supporters gathered for presentations at the end of the day.

The Armidale Motor Cycle Club gratefully acknowledges the generosity of the Press family for hosting the riders on their property “Bannaweera”, and the St Johns Ambulance staff and the Uralla bush fire brigade who provide their services rain, hail or shine. Special thanks is extended to Danny Goodwin of TTT Mechanical, Walcha, for sponsoring the second NISS round and to the many volunteers who made the day run smoothly. The next round of the NISS series will be held on Sunday August 2, and is sponsored by Ray White Real Estate. All riders are welcome.
