My apologies for the omission of the last two racing columns but I have had hospital appointments to attend.
I would like to apologise in advance also as I will be out of action for a few more weeks due to an operation. But I will keep my ears tuned to 2KY radio to bring you up to date with all the local racing news.
There have been some very good performances by locally owned neddies of late with Kate Nivison’s racing syndicate winning the Tamworth Jockey Club’s big fillies race with Lohan.
Trainer Tim Martin brought Lohan to Tamworth with a win in mind for the two-year-old and went away with the spoils of that race.
Two weeks later and Tim entered Lohan at Randwick for another two-year-old race and Lohan carried on where he left off at Tamworth winning convincingly again.
Kate also has Molly Rocks who has won out west and been placed at Doomben since our last column.
Jill Nivison and Sandy Tait have also been in the winner’s circle with Sandberg who won at Golbourn on Friday. Sandberg showed his liking for wet tracks when he won his first race which happened to be at Golbourn and the wet conditions of the meeting on Friday was right up his alley.
The wet tracks have caused havoc of late with lots of meetings set down called off because of safety concerns.
The spring racing carnival is well and truly under way in Melbourne at the moment with the big races scheduled being run and some won. The Caulfield cup winner Viewed showed all and sundry he was on track to emulate his win in the Melbourne Cup last year, with a sterling performance to take out the Caulfield Cup.
He will probably go down in the history books as one of the all-time great cup winners after he wins the Melbourne Cup again in November.
It is hard to see anything beating him at this stage as his Caulfield Cup win was a clear message to all that he is on track for his Melbourne Cup defence.
As soon as I am well enough I will return with the racing column but until then good punting!
