Coogee's column

LAST week Goodcom employee Mitchell Dunn was about to do a spot of whipper snipping at the back of the shop in Derby Street but was having trouble finding the clip to secure the grass cutting machine to his waist. Fellow employee Jodie Boyd and her daughter Chloe soon worked out what Mitch’s problem was - he had the harness on back to front.

STILL on Chloe she ran into a few problems while returning home from a ‘Tupperware’ meeting in Inverell recently. Travelling with neighbour Ash Morris, somehow the pair took a wrong turn and ended up in Glen Innes. Maybe a GPS navigation system may be the way to go girls.

FOR quite a number of years our family always celebrated the birthday of my sister Tracey Crisp on April 29. That was until Tracey found an original birth certificate, which stated she was actually born on April 28. Certainly didn’t worry ‘Tracky’ too much she now has a party for two days but the rest of us still stick to the 29th. Hope you had a great 50th last week Trace.

APPARENTLY during the recent school holidays Gordon Strong and Iziah Bray were assisting ‘Tarwonga’ mayor David Fletcher with a few chores around the place. At one stage while Gordon was opening a gate Davie couldn’t get the work vehicle to go forward or reverse. When Gordon enquired into what the problem was Dave didn’t have any answers but Iziah did. Dave had his foot on the brake not the clutch.

FORMER English wrestler Mal Ballard became very excited when his mystery trifecta numbers came up at the Commercial Hotel on Tuesday afternoon. The trifecta was paying approximately $2,337 and Mal did the noble thing and started shouting the bar. Unfortunately when Mal checked his ticket it read ‘no dividend’ simply because it was for the Gawler Greyhounds not the Albion Park trotters which he thought he was on.

AFTER a hard day at the office John Busby occasionally enjoys a refreshing ale at the Apsley Arms Hotel and had done so for quite some time. One would think by now John should have worked out that he has to pull the door to enter the premises not push it but by all accounts he was having a bit of trouble with his entry not long back.

THE Musical Society production ‘Key to Success’ written by talented local playwright Lance Partridge finally hits the stage at the Ex Services Club this Saturday evening. A matinee will follow on Sunday and then another two sessions the following Friday and Saturday. All the cast would love to see you in the audience sometime.

BIG Wigs of the Week- Apsley: Colin Thomson picked the card; Newie: Jason Latham 14; Ex Services: Bernie Nash and Phil Bennet 14; Bowling Club: Mary Kuhr, Jenny Bowden, Gerry Moran 12; Mountain Motors: Chub Partridge, Pauline Feltham, Anthony Mitchie and Tom Wake 12; Commercial: Karen Boyd and Brian Smith 12; HLCW: Truck Laurie and Ben Cross 12.

APSLEY tipster Colin Thomson must have changed his tips at the pub from the one he entered in the Walcha News last week because the Cowboys and Rabbitohs certainly didn’t win. Good to see Peter Norbury (Manly) and Truck Laurie (Tigers) sticking true and selecting their teams. At least you got the points boys.

PARRAMATTA supporter Sue Handsaker wouldn’t have been too pleased with herself after she selected the Cowboys to defeat her beloved Eels last weekend. At least you can’t back against the Eels this week Susie - they have the bye.

WHO was the Mountain Motors mechanic who drove to Tamworth and for a number of hours had a ‘Gay Porn Star’ magnet stuck to his car? Rumour has it a few of the boys at the garage have been playing a few practical jokes on each other lately and usually ‘what goes around comes around’

ABOUT a month ago Niangala schoolboy Cody Clarke was the Peter Norbury Sports Star of the Week- but unfortunately the photo I took of him was a ‘Barry Crocker’. Well ‘Code’ we will give you another run today and hopefully your brother Lane is below.
