NOT a happy little camper would be the only way to describe David Hooker last weekend. After putting in long hours at his Derby Street business late Saturday ‘Hooker’ called in at the Apsley Arms Hotel for a couple of well earned liquid refreshments. When he arrived a couple of cars were parked outside the lines so he was forced to do the same, which didn’t look good when they both left the scene. Dave was less than amused to find a notice on his windscreen when he returned but cooled down somewhat when he found out he was in fact cautioned not fined.

AFTER the recent NRL game when Manly belted the Roosters 42-0 ‘Chooks’ supporter Col Swanton received a phone call from a bloke by the name of ‘Steve’. When Col asked ‘Steve who’ the real caller, Sea Eagles fan Lyndon Partridge replied ‘Steve Menzies I just rang to inform you I’m having roast rooster for dinner’.

EITHER it really did happen or I would like some of what they were on but Murray Rose and Michael Hoy both reckon they saw eels appearing up through the storm water drains at the Aquatic Caravan Park over the June long weekend. Something to do with a King Tide according to ‘Muzza’ and ‘Red’.

A reminder about the Steve Brown benefit darts night at the New England Hotel this Saturday commencing at 6.30pm. Could names be registered either by phone or in person by 6pm?

PARK Lane resident Wendy Starr recently purchased a new kettle after her old water warmer started to play up or so she thought. Apparently the old kettle had a thermostat that shut the apparatus off after it boiled and couldn’t be reactivated until the water-cooled down unbeknown to Wendy. That was until husband Derek explained the procedure but at least the Starr’s now have two kettles.

A raffle win is always great but how is the recent luck of Brian Olrich. Not long back Brian won a windscreen with the only draw back he hasn’t got a car and then about the same time was drawn out for a load of wood only he hasn’t got a wood heater. At least both have re-sale value Brian.

HAD the pleasure of taking son Ben, Callan Creighton and Jake LeStrande to the ‘Smackdown’ Wrestling in Newcastle on Monday night. Spotted Hamish Hoare and his grand father Noel along with Campbell Martin and his father Cameron taking in all the ‘Big Boy’ action. Just keep an eye on Noel if he is close by he might attempt a ‘Boston Crab’ or an ‘Indian Death Lock’ on you.

FORMER Walcha Roos hooker and Walcha Road cricketer Sean Kelleher isn’t experiencing the best of health. Sean has commenced treatment for his disorder but in his own words ‘will need a miracle to pull through this one’. We can only hope you get one Colin.

BIG Wigs of the Week - David Garth Clare picked the card at the Apsley Arms hotel, BC and Newie while Andrew McGuffog got the job done at the newie as well. Ex Services: Ray Boyd, Anthony Green, Peter Hayes, Bernie Nash and Jack Davis all 8 points; HLC: best six points.

PART time Quiet Valley resident Kimberley Laurie is currently in an online footy tipping competition with about 90,000 others and has been in the top 10 tipsters for the past few weeks. That was up until last weekend when the Tamworth accountant hit the outright lead.

THANKFULLY New England Credit union employee Jon Izzard was on the ball last Saturday morning while motoring to Walcha just this side of the Uralla Lagoon. Jon was confronted with an oncoming vehicle (reportedly driven by an employee of another credit union) overtaking a truck and his quick thinking of veering off into the table drain defused a situation, which could have ended up a whole lot worse. The reason I know is that the car behind the truck was mine.

BY all accounts Walcha Women’s’ Soccer goal keeper Sarah Steel looked remarkably like Tara Stackman last weekend, well from a distance anyway. Without going into too many details Ray Boyd was leading the Group 4 best and fairest quite a few years ago and hadn’t placed a foot on the paddock.
