WHO would have thought that after four rounds of the footy Manly would be undefeated and leading the competition? After defeating Newcastle 24-12 last Sunday the Sea Eagles are on top of the ladder which is a bit unfortunate because not a lot of people are too interested in the Toyota Cup.

THE Walcha Rams went within a whisker of defeating Inverell in the opening round of the Central North competition last Saturday. In a high scoring affair the home team scored just before fulltime and the visitors didn’t have time to restart the match before the final bell sounded.

THIS weekend Central North have a ‘zone bye’ to celebrate Easter and then Walcha will be at home to take on the other Rams in the competition Barraba. The following Saturday ANZAC Day, Walcha will host Moree.

WOOLBROOK School swimming relay team will compete in the State Championship team in Sydney this morning. Sophie Uren, Bonnie Brattan-Smith, Kelvin Matthews and Wade Cummings will be flying the Woolbrook flag and hopefully will enjoy the experience. It certainly isn’t something every kid who dives into a swimming pool gets to participate in.

FORMER Bowling Club all-rounder Mitchell Sweeney wasn’t a happy chappie last weekend and for that matter either was the rest of his Gordon cricket team that were scheduled to play Fairfield/Liverpool in the Sydney fourth grade grand final at Penrith. Unfortunately the curator failed to cover the wicket ad after rain there was no player on Saturday and 90 overs on Sunday of which Fairfield (who had won the toss) batted 80 of them. Despite finishing minor premiers Gordon was left to lament after their opponents were crowned premiers because they had a better result in their semi final match. Certainly haven’t heard of that system before.

THE Armidale Zone School Sports Association will be conducting their PSSA Cross Country championships in Walcha on Thursday May 21, 2009. Once again Kevin Creighton has kindly offered to coach the athletes that have qualified for their various divisions.

THERE was a bit of confusion with the first training run on Tuesday when some athletes turned up t the school and some at the golf course. K.C will be conducting training sessions at the school on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4pm as well as Sundays 9except Easter Sunday) at 3pm. These sessions will continue throughout the school holidays with all runners more than welcome to attend.

SWIMMING Club finalised their season last Tuesday when they held the annual presentations awards. Congratulations to all trophy winners and to president Carnie Kermode, along with her hard working committee on another successful season.

WITH junior Rugby League season just around the corner the club has experienced a few hiccups recently when the shed that houses the training equipment was broken into and half dozen balls were stolen. To say president Dave Abraham is not too happy would be understating the fact and he would like the balls returned ASAP.

MY humblest apologies to cricketer Hannah Laurie who I failed to give a mention last week when only five Walcha players Thomas Boyd, Ryan Relf, Ben Watts, Colin Thomson and Tim Partridge were listed as members of Uralla’s grand final team. What a finish to the U12s decider, which ended up in a tie.

OF the above six players our have already had a taste of senior cricket. Thomas Boyd and Colin Thomson play for Rugby league on a regular basis in our local competition while Ryan Relf also filled in for the same team during the past season. Not to forget Hannah Laurie who had a run for premiers Colts on a few occasions in 2008/09. Good on ya guys keep up the good work.
