Mrs Hoy has a number of special recipes, but her first-prize winning banana cake is a favourite and was the first cake she entered into the show in 1934.
“I’ve used the same banana cake recipe since the very first time I entered the show and I’ve put a banana cake in nearly every year,” she said.
“I’ve hardly ever missed a show.” And it has won on many occasions as well.
The banana cake holds a special place in Mrs Hoy’s heart as it was also the very first cake she ever made and it was for Dr Morgan’s family.
She also has other favourite cakes and biscuits that have been entered into the show over the years including short bread, chocolate cake, sultana cake and fruit pudding.
Mrs Hoy’s son Bevis Hoy said he can remember years when his mum won up to 14 or more ribbons. Her baked treats have also ended up at the Sydney Royal Easter Show a time or two and Mrs Hoy has also done her share of judging.
“I enjoy cooking and will be putting cakes in the show again this year,” she said. “I’ve been helping to cook since I was eight and I hope to pass down some recipes to the grandchildren.”
Mrs Hoy recalled the first time she made her now famous banana cake.
“I had been looking through some recipe books and found the recipe and there were three overripe bananas in a dish so I made the cake for Dr Morgan’s wife and when she came back for afternoon tea she liked it so much she called some friends to come over and try it as well.”
