The little black book exits from the bedroom drawer in an effort to find a winner in the conditions, but alas none were found. That’s a story that was done in triplicate on Saturday last and the job of finding winners was a herculean task.
No such task for the owners of brave Ali however as he relished the conditions to virtually lead all the way at Eagle Farm last Saturday.
Brave Ali has been in the headlines of late and started favourite in the recent Armidale Cup.
Brave Ali is owned by a syndicate of well known Armidale jockey club members including Rod Watt and jockey club secretary Jim Dedes and also started a well supported commodity in the Walcha Cup.
Trained by former Walcha mentor Craig Martin, Brave Ali relished the conditions in Brisbane and rewarded his confidence with a very comfortable win.
Placing a horse was never more evident than in Brave Ali’s case on Saturday as he was placed to perfection by Craig.
George Woodward headed to Tamworth on Tuesday last and came away with a win and a second. Minimos proved too good for the opposition on the dead five track and led them a merry dance to record a half length victory.
Stable mate and Ron Martin memorial maiden
winner All Alert was gallant in defeat going down by two lengths carrying a huge weight in the tricky going on the same program. All Alert struggled under the weight but showed enough to suggest he has above average ability.
The Fenwicke family also had He’s Dreamin’ entered in the race won by Minimos and he too was gallant in defeat. He’s Dreamin’ usually takes a couple of runs to reach his peak and is one to watch in the future especially as the races get a little longer.
Craig Martin will head back to Brisbane on Saturday with Jefferson Park.
I would suggest that if you backed him last start then follow your money. The Jill Nivison owned and Walcha Cup winner will surely give you a great sight for your money.
Congratulations to the relay for life organisers last Saturday and also those who supported it. It was certainly a moving event that saw many a tear shed for departed family members and loved ones.
