Club champion Tim Stackman increased his winning sequence of Walcha A grade golf championship victorious to 10 and his overall tally to 11 when he completed this year’s 72-hole journey with a total of 287 (69, 73, 78 and 67) which included sub par opening and closing rounds.

A three under par final round assisted by an eagle on the sixth hole shut out runner-up Andrew Brennan and arch rival Simeon Cross. The pair did receive some consolations though, with AJ taking out his fifth junior title in succession on 293 (71, 74, 78, 70) while Simeon racked up his second veteran’s crown in a row on 295 (76, 70,75,74).
In B grade Liam Brennan 333 (89, 77, 89, 78) won by 12 shots from four-time bridesmaid Crichton Barr 345 (88, 85, 94, 88) while John McLaren claimed C grade on 371 (93, 89 97, 92) from Lachie Fletcher 382 (99, 95, 94, 94).
On Saturday Col Berry won the prize supplied by secretary Jenny Lisle after carding a 66 nett while sweepstakes went to Simeon Cross 69, Brian Lynch 70, Jon Izzard 71, Lachie Fletcher 71, Warick Hogan 72 and Doug McDonald 73.
The following day Liam Brennan collected a trophy donated by president Allan Green after registering a 65 nett to finish a head of sweepstakes winners Tim Stackman 66, AJ Brennan 67, Simeon Cross 69, Vicki Heffernan 69 and Will Brennan 70 on a countback (surprise, surprise!) from Crichton Barr.
The Nick Cross Memorial trophy for best nett score over the 72 holes net to Simeon Cross 272 (70, 64, 69, 69). Sharpest shooters at the pins on Saturday were Lee Fletcher (3), Doug McDonald (9), Kyle Goodwin (16), while on Sunday Tim Stackman (3), Anthony Smith (9) and Wayne Brennan (18) were the most accurate with their tee shots.
Also on Saturday Jenny Lisle won a three-way count back with Vicki Heffernan and Penny King to win the weekly veterans nine hole competition after all three accumulated 13 stableford points. In match play on Saturday local sheriff Anthony Smith defeated Allan Green 5 and 4.
This Sunday is the ‘Kanga Cup’ Ray Boyd Memorial trophy to be played under a four person ambrose format commencing with a shotgun start at noon. Clubhouse duty: Max Holstein.
