The court disqualified his licence for a period of nine months and he was fined $2000.
“I accept the decision of the court,” said Mr Marshall. “I reiterate that I made a huge mistake and deeply regret my actions. I drank and drove and was a bloody idiot.”
Mr Marshall said he would again like to sincerely apologise to the community, his friends and family for his actions.
“If any good comes from this situation, I hope it is a clear message to others – if you drink and drive you will get caught and suffer the consequences, as I am,” he said.
Mr Marshall went on to say he intended to use his position as an MP to help educate others, particularly young people, about the dangers associated with drink driving and that it was simply not acceptable.
