Talented NIAS mountain bike rider Jack Feltham won the inaugural race on Walcha’s newly built track when he finished over two minutes ahead of his arch rival Michael Harries from Armidale last Sunday.

He completed the four laps, an 8.6 kilometre journey in 1:31:47 at an average of just a tick under 23 minutes a lap. Just for good measure Feltham celebrated by riding the last 70 metres uphill to the finish line on his back wheel.
Walcha was also represented in the Men’s Masters over three laps with Chris Feltham completing his ride in 1:20:33; Bill Wake 1:28:26; Graeme Wall 1:29:51 and Hugh Nivison 1:35:40.
In the under 15s female division, Grace Ledingham was positioned third, finishing her two laps in 1:29:44 while in the under 15s male section Tom Wake came fifth in 1:16:34 and Tom Nivison seventh in 1:31:02 also over two laps. The only local representative in the male under 17s was Jack Wake who covered his three lap distance in 1:24:29 to finish in second position.
In the early Dirt Masters event both Sam Feltham and Jorjie Ledingham performed when they kicked proceedings off early in the day.
A total of 74 riders took part in Walcha’s first NIXC Winter Series event with all participants full of praise for the outlay of the new track.
