FORMER Council employee Daniel Higgins, who is now studying to be a surveyor through Toowoomba University, has also been dabbling in writing and performing his own songs. At a recent song writers’ evening at the Hogs Breath Café in Tamworth, Daniel won best performance of the night after finishing second the time before. Daniel will feature in the Country Capital News magazine next month and is pencilled in to perform live on 2TM on the last Wednesday of August. Razzle’s number one song at the moment is “Home for me”, a patriotic number about living in Australia.

ALL round sporting quartet Simeon Cross, Wayne Brennan, Johnny O’Hara and tour organiser Steph Sweeney head to the Big Smoke tomorrow for what should be a weekend filled with fun. The boys are set to play two or three rounds of golf, along with attending the Sydney Swans versus St Kilda AFL game before returning home on Sunday after hopefully adhering to the motto ‘moderation is the key’.
LAST week former Walcha cricket master blaster, golf champion, llama farmer and winner of the Kim Cross King of Compaction Award, Mark Peters, phoned his good mate Wayne Brennan, but Brenno’s son Andrew took the call. About five minutes later when AJ finally got a word in, ‘Turbo’ murmured “Oh, is that you Andrew” after he thought he had been talking to Wayne.
COUNCIL parks and garden employee Cynthia Morris doesn’t get to travel outside the town speed limits very often, but when she did recently, she came unstuck attempting to get from Glen Morrison to Riamukka, via the Lakes Road. When Cynthia turned off too early and ended up at Lakeside, she had to use the two-way system for assistance, which means everyone with a council two-way in their vehicle knew about it. Not that they said anything to Cynthia about getting lost.
NOT long back Ex-Services Chinese cook Victor Ng looked very concerned when he approached Newie 2IC Bob Denniss and asked him where all the old TAB tickets were. When Bob told Victor they were in the garbage bin, Victor removed them, put the tickets in a big plastic bag and vacated the premises. Some time later he returned with one of the tickets and collected $108, which certainly made the whole exercise worthwhile.
THE Walcha Rugby League held a ‘Movie Mania’ theme night at the Bowling Club last Saturday with plenty of players and supporters dressing up. Best and fairest went to Lacey Latham and Ben Green, while my players’ player vote went to Daniel Broadbent who came along as the Joker from the Batman movies. Well done to everyone who made the effort to make the night such an enjoyable one.
Prior to the fancy dress evening “Old Banchory” grazieress Jenny Laurie reminded her husband Allan that it was on, before asking him what he was going to dress up as. ‘Toby’ wouldn’t have been in the good books when he replied: “I was going to go as a nagging house wife, but I can’t get any of your outfits to fit me.” Hopefully you said it with your tongue firmly planted in your cheek Al.
FELLOW Manly Warringah supporter Kenneth Cameron was owed a carton of beverage from his younger brother Philip from last year’s semi-final when Phil’s Rabbits went down to the Sea Eagles. ‘Fred’ reckons he was talked into doubling the bet last Friday night, much to his regret.
ANOTHER Sea Eagle supporter and Pakington Street resident Una Boyd celebrates a marvelous milestone this very day when she reaches 90 years on the planet. Hope you have a great day Mrs Boyd and that the Sea Eagles play a bit better this time around than they did last Friday night.
LAST Monday Council recycle centre supervisor Frank Wiedermann couldn’t work out why it was so dark when he arrived at the North Street depot to commence duties for the day on such a clear morning. By all accounts Frank experienced a few clock problems before turning up at 5.30am, instead of his usual 6.30am start.
BIG wigs of the week: Mountain Motors – Bill and Pauline Feltham; BC – Darren Bird, Kathy Clare; West End Store – Billy Pearce Kathy Innes; Newie – ‘Blinky’ Bill Pearce, Nathan Denniss, Dal Evans, Frazier Evans, Sam Lisle, John Maloney, Shaun Maloney, James Patterson-Kane, Dean Kelly, Nga Marsters, ‘Goodooga’ Walker and ‘Digger’ Lordanic all got 14 points; Apsley – ‘Magpie’ Lynch, ‘Victor’ (alias Lizzie); Prime Meats – Jonnie Cross; WVS – Jason Scott, Dion Bird and Sarah Nivison received 12 points. Special mention goes to Steve ‘Dizzy’ Eveleigh who failed to score a point at the Newie. Don’t forget that this week’s kick-off is tonight not tomorrow and cards need to be registered before the start time of 7.30pm.
LAST weekend Roosters supporter, Evans Street resident and Council mechanic Stephen ‘Spa’ Bath hooked a blue eye cod (trevalla) weighing 18 kilograms in 450 metres of water off Coffs Harbour.
