If the Magpies are defeated by Dungowan this Saturday, the Roos will host the elimination semi-final, while if the Creek wins, both their games and Walcha were to lose to Kootingal at the final round, the Roos will be required to travel south.
Last Saturday Walcha regained fourth position on the ladder after they defeated a gutsy 13 player Bendemeer outfit 34-8 at the Park.
Lock forward Lachlan Brown opened the scoring for the home side when he muscled his way over for a try after just two minutes before ‘benchless’ Bendy retaliated to level the scores three minutes later.
Five minutes on, winger Robert ‘Loti’ Smith dived over in the corner before the visitors bounced back to once again level at 8-all. The only other points before oranges came from Brown after he palmed off several defenders to secure his second touchdown for the match.
Early in the second session half back Glenn Olrich laid on a good inside ball to centre Jason Latham who burrowed his way over to score in a handy position for winger Tim Baumer to kick his only goal of the game.
A few minutes later fullback Dean Kelly sent Baumer over in the scoreboard corner and then midway through the half, centre Alex Laurie powered his way over the tryline from 10 metres out.
With six minutes remaining, coach Peter Berry graced the field for the first time this season and ran a decoy just before hooker Ben Moran dived over for a four-pointer. As the full-time siren was about to sound, prop Mitchell Eveleigh reached out to score the Roos the eighth try of the day to finalise the scoring. Forwards Lachlan Laurie, Brett Beard, Max Abraham, Daniel Lordanic, Ben Green, Chris Broadbent, Luke Brown and Daniel Broadbent all looked for work throughout the match, which helped lay the platform for their backs to operate efficiently, especially during the second half.
Best and fairest points group - Rodney Rolls 3, Lachlan Brown 2 and Troy Yarnold 1; and club points went to Troy Yarnold 3, Jason Latham 2, and Glen Olrich 1 who was also voted as players’ player.
This weekend the Roos and Jillaroos both have a bye before travelling to Kootingal for their final competition match on Saturday week.
