Microns Restaurant and Café and the Oxley Explorer have been nominated for the customer service excellence award and join eight other finalists in that category out of a field of 20.
“The judges found it hard to adjudicate between entries to produce the finalists list,” Armidale Business Chamber executive officer Tracy Pendergast said.
“The entries were all very good and demonstrated different points about how customer service can be ‘done right’.
Microns has been given a most enthusiastic nomination by a customer who raved about their consistently fabulous food, lovely service and welcoming staff, while the Oxley Explorer was nominated by a customer who said that their staff is amazingly positive and nothing is ever too much trouble.
Ms Pendergast went on to say both companies are strong competitors for the award.
“Overall, there are about 60 finalists across all 12 categories and they were the only nominations from Walcha - that both are through to the finals suggests Walcha has a high standard of Customer Service all round,” she said.
“Our judges will be mystery shopping at Microns and Oxley Explorer as well as all the other finalists to help determine the overall winner.”
Malcolm Macpherson from Oxley Explorer said his entire team worked hard for the business assisting each other in washing, fueling and getting vehicles prepared for passengers.
“It would be a wonderful boost for them to be recognised for their effort by winning this award,” he said.
“Winning the award would also provide our company with valuable publicity throughout the region, and assist with our marketing in the coming years.
“Walcha is a hard working town who are extremely proud and supportive of their local businesses.
“However, many of these businesses struggle at times due to the town’s isolation from the main transport routes and reliance on the rural economy. It would be great for the town to have one of its businesses win one of these awards, particularly for customer service, which the town as a whole does so well.”
The winners will be announced at a dinner next month.
