The event will showcase two new products and an affordable worm testing kit to allow producers to check the effectiveness of their current worm management products and program.
There will also be a preview of a new product which will be released onto the market in spring.
Dr Rad Nielson from Veterinary Health Research (VHR) will discuss the budget worm test kit VHR have just released for distribution through selected suppliers including Walcha Vet Supplies.
Aimed at sheep producers, the kit will enable graziers to establish the worm status of their sheep at a reduced price to the traditional worm kit. Faecal samples (ideally from 30-40 sheep) are collected into a single jar and a single bulk worm egg count performed.
No species identification or liver fluke assessment is performed, however the single count when taken from up to 40 animals provides a very reliable indication of mob worm burden. The kit costs $40 plus GST and is invoiced at the point of sale, including return postage and prompt emailing of results.
Interpretation and advice will be provided by WVS animal health personnel.
“By providing these kits at a lower price point it will encourage more sheep producers to adopt worm monitoring practices in order to improve their animal health management and overall profitability,” said WVS proprietor Peter King.
“Worm egg count results can be used to not only establish the need for drenching and fine-tune drench timing, but also determine the effectiveness of recent treatments. Given the extent of drench resistance within the New England region it is vital that graziers are aware of what drenches are genuinely effective on their properties.”
Following the VHR session Dr Natalie Robertson from Zoetis Technical Services will introduce the new active drench Startect; then Dr Kate Woolley the Merial veterinarian will outline the advantages of Dynamax Capsules and finally Steve Highland from Bayer Animal Health will discuss the benefits of Tri-Solfen.
This lunch event is free and open to all those interested in effective sheep worm management. To RSVP call Narelle on 6777 2588 by September 8.
