Uralla will travel to Walcha on Saturday, October 18 for the event. Walcha has two billy carts but we need two more in order to get the derby under way. The derby will take place before the Festival billy cart races which will commence at 10.30am from the corner of Apsley and South Streets.
After the billy cart derby, a return match will take place the following weekend at Uralla for their billy cart derby so the riders will need to be available for that event.
The challenges will take place in a run-off by the two towns to see which two carts will run off for the honour of representing their town. It is hoped the event will become an annual clash.
Billy carts are also required for the billy cart races. Rules are available at www.walcha.nsw.gov.au.
Billy carts need a low centre of gravity for better stability and handling. Large diameter wheels give more speed. Keep steering lock to lock short to aid control and lessen chances of roll over on rope steer carts.
The Royal café has put up a $100 prize for the best themed kart and driver. For entries phone Kevin Ferrier on 0427 688 139. All billy carts must have brakes and riders must have helmets and knee and elbow guards.
