APSLEY Street resident Josephine Wicks was transferring a tub of rubbish to town from the Blue Mountains property of her parents Bill and Dawn Hamel. During her journey a mouse sprung onto Jo’s shoulder scaring the daylights out of her before she quickly brought the vehicle to a stop. Just as she jumped out of the ute the mouse landed on her foot and turned around with ‘ha got you again’ look before disappearing into the sunset. Didn’t think a Mountain View Mouse would worry you Jo. Not quite as bad a when Trish Aspinal had a snake peering around on her back seat a while back while she was travelling past the super shed.
FORMER English wrestler Mal Ballard was having trouble hearing his mobile recently until his better half Linda pointed out he accidentally put some sticky tape over the speaker when he tried to anchor a bit of the phone that was flapping about. Mal suggested Linda shouldn’t be giving too much cheek as she inquired if the South Sydney Burgess boys were English while watching the grand final.
A LITTLE while back North Street resident Graham Forbes attempted to phone his much better half Bev on her mobile but every time he did the landline at their house would ring. Each time Graham hung up on his mobile to answer the landline there was no one on the other end. Little wonder ‘Forbsy’ had been ringing the landline number not Bev’s mobile number.
BUMPED into some of the 28 cyclists who pulled into McHattan Park for lunch on Tuesday during their Melbourne to Brisbane fundraising ride for cancer. A few of the riders looked a bit fatigued before they headed off to Armidale for the night but little wonder really they had ridden from Gloucester to Walcha into a headwind from 6am that morning. Gutsy effort to say the least.
BEST of luck to all cyclists this week whether participating in the Walcha, Kentucky, Wollun, Walcha Road, Walcha loop on Saturday or the annual Westpac Helicopter Charity ride on Sunday at Langford. It will be interesting to see how the new format on Sunday pans out.
EVANS Street resident Stephen Bath was having trouble with an extension cord before he decided it wouldn’t be that hard to fix. ‘Pole’ found out he was no ‘Snow’ Bird or Ian Cameron when he finished up with three prongs at both ends instead of just three at one end.
WHEN Middle Street dweller Leanne Marshall asked her daughter Maryanne if she wanted some compost the response was in the affirmative. Apparently not long later Maryanne asked someone nearby what compost was but there would be little doubt she now knows.
FOR the first time since 1986 the Colleen Cross Memorial trophy will be an individual event instead of 4BBB when it is contested this Sunday. It will be interesting to see what numbers are like considering the Walcha Festival and Westpac Helicopter Mountain Bike Ride is on the same day. If you can play in mum’s trophy the Cross family would love to see you there.
LAST weekend John Mann was meant to play with his old mate Max Holstein in the NSW Veterans Sandgreen championships but ended up teaming up with Fred Henry instead. The change didn’t do ‘Ming’ any harm as he and ‘Fredum’ accumulated 26 stableford points during their opening nine holes.
THE reason Max was unavailable he fell out of bed the previous evening and failed a fitness test on Saturday morning. After ‘Ming’ and ‘Fredum’ had posted the 26 points there was a suggestion that one of them may have pushed Max out of his ‘cot’. That wasn’t the case and unfortunately, the dynamic duo couldn’t keep up their early form.
Max’s daughter Linda Ison did manage to fly the family flag last weekend though when she combined with Walcha’s own Jill Burnell to take out the ladies division. Good on ya girls.
GOLF Club president Allan Green was having hell's own trouble contacting bar staff member Steph Sweeney who had volunteered for duty on Sunday no matter how many calls he made from his mobile phone. When Tony Asmus heard what was going on he suggested ‘Greeny’ use his phone as the ‘Golden Haired Child’ wouldn’t know whose it was. Two dial tones later Alice had contacted his man.
IF you weren’t awake around 2am on Tuesday morning most people in town would have been just after that when an almighty clap of thunder echoed around the joint. Pakington Street dweller Harley Fontanella reckons he thought the world was about to end the noise was so loud.
