THERE was only one game of cricket played in the Walcha competition last Saturday where Uralla defeated Rugby League by eight wickets at the Uralla Sports Complex.
Batting first the visitors could only muster a modest 56 runs in less than 18 overs with number five batsmen Aaron Johnson the only batsman to reach double figures before finishing on 19 runs.
Sundries were next best on 16. League were in strife at 2/2 having lost veteran opener Rob Laurie for a duck and then first drop Peter Mooney on the first ball of Ben Hamilton’s second over. Hamilton sent down his allotted four overs restricting League to just five runs while capturing two wickets while his opening partner Josh McFarland calmed 2/12 off his four overs.
Second change bowler Garry Aulakh also snared a brace of wickets 2/13 before Matt Tasik cleaned up the tail grabbing 3/3 late in the innings.
After Uralla lost Tasik in the sixth over with the team total on 12 the home side consolidated and went within a run of levelling the scores before Jay Grills was trapped LBW by spinner Mark Johnson for a game high 31.
Uralla were 2/55 at that stage and then when they had reached 57, Ben Cross took a good catch off the bowling of George Lyon to dismiss McFarland for 15 runs. When Cross bowled Aulakh for three runs stumps were drawn with Uralla on 4/62.
This Saturday Colts take on Uralla at John Oxley Sportsground and Kentucky do battle with Round Swamp at the Park.
