Festival co-ordinator Julie Ireland said the response from visitors was fantastic.
“People were just blown away,” she said. “At one stage, due to the drought, we were going to call it off.
“So many people were amazed at the quality of the gardens considering the dry season.”
Mrs Ireland estimates that each garden had between 1100 and 1200 people through.
“The two days were just really perfect,” she said. “We had visitors from Cairns, Mt Tambourine, Narrabri, the North Coast and Sydney and people from every state except Western Australia.
“The festival has become quite well known.”
Mrs Ireland thanked the garden owners who put so much hard work into preparing their gardens under extremely trying conditions.
“Thanks to the support from our community and the Yarrowitch community – especially for all their lovely cakes and slices and thanks also to all those who made any kind of donation or helped out,” she said.
Expenses are yet to come out of the festival earnings and the Walcha Garden Club will then allocate money to nominated charities.
