The rain gladdened everyone’s spirits without interrupting the performances.
Visitors included those from Narrandera, Canberra, the Southern Highlands, Manilla, Tamworth, Uralla, Glen Innes, Armidale, Gloucester and Walcha.
After a professional and often hilarious offering from the theatre company, the Architects, who had set the scene at the beginning of the evening, ended the night supported by a riotous group of revellers dancing enthusiastically to Chitlins Con Carne by composer Kenny Burrell. Everyone wants to come back next year.
The raffle winners were - first prize, a weekend for four guests at the historic School House at Nowendoc House was won by George and Cherie Pethard, second prize of adventure camping on the Walcrow River was won by Walcha Councillor Scott Schmutter and the third prize of a voucher to attend a Mindfulness retreat was won by George Spring.
Walcha deputy mayor Scott Schmutter drew the raffle and congratulated Nena Hicks and her committee on another wonderful production.
“Council has for many years recognised the importance of cultural investments, knowing that it brings valuable tourism dollars into our community,” he said.
“While this has been focused traditionally on the visual arts, council has taken advantage of recent performing art opportunities such as Opera at Langford and Shakespeare on the Grass to further cement our reputation as a vibrant regional cultural hub.”
