On the back of the success of the inaugural Opera at Langford on November 15, a meeting was held in Walcha on Monday to discuss various aspects of the event.

The event attracted an audience of 500 with attendance from many regional centres - Armidale, Tamworth, Glen Innes, Gloucester, Port Macquarie, Inverell and Moree, and several visitors from as far afield as Brisbane and Sydney.
The performers were greeted by an enthusiastic welcome.
“Opera North West and the artists were delighted with the response,” said artistic director, Peta Blyth.
Tenor Bradley Daley, headed the cast with David Hibbard bass, sopranos Peta Blyth, Amanda Windred and mezzo soprano, Ruth Strutt delighting the audience with operatic gems which resounded across the grounds of Langford. The string quartet and flautist performed several instrumental pieces with the verandahs of Langford providing stunning platform for the performances.
The post event meeting deemed the event a success and also discussed ways to improve the event in future. The police congratulated Opera North West on the smooth running of the event and all agreed that the publicity for Walcha was extremely beneficial and had contributed to the town’s already prominent cultural profile.
A meeting with Walcha Council’s general manager, Jack O’Hara and mayor, Janelle Archdale was also positive.
Owner of Langford, Barry Marshall also expressed his satisfaction with the success of evening.
“Opera North West wishes to give their thanks to Walcha Council, whose foresight, positivity and vision enabled the event to come to fruition,” said Mrs Blyth said. “We are grateful to the support of the community and a special thanks goes to the Rotary Club of Walcha for their invaluable assistance with the parking. The meeting gave the every indication that a future performance would be well received.”
