Walcha has lost a great lady with the passing of Shirley Davison OAM. Shirley has been an active member on many committees and has also worked tirelessly for many community organisations including St Vincent De Paul over countless years. Shirley was a kind, gentle and caring person who went about her duties in a quiet and dignified manner. She was a highly valued and respected representative of the Walcha community and will be greatly missed.

Last Wednesday the general manager and I attended an all day workshop in Tamworth to progress the Joint Organisation Pilot model and prepare an Action Plan for 2015. The pilot JO will commence in January 2015 and needless to say the coming year is going to be busy and productive. The next day we attended the final meeting of Namoi Councils for the year were the decision to welcome both Moree and Gwydir Councils to join the pilot program was made.
Attending the presentation ceremonies for St Patricks and Walcha Central schools last week saw the cream of our students being recognised and awarded for their efforts throughout the year, however as both schools are farewelling their respective principals, the events held mixed emotions. I congratulate both Alana and Nerida for their positive and professional contributions to our Walcha schools and wish them both the very best for their future endeavours.
The rain received across the Walcha district over the last week or so has been amazing and I can almost hear the grass growing. Despite the rain the McDonald still does not have full flow and with a few hot days forecast it will not take long to return to tough conditions. Please be aware of your water use, sadly the recent rain does not mean we no longer have an issue with our water supply.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of Council’s 355 committees and the volunteers who give their time freely at the Visitor Information Centre for their valued work and input throughout the year. Walcha is rich with volunteers and the expertise and knowledge of these community members is invaluable. Thank you.
As the festive season is upon us I wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and look forward to Walcha putting its best foot forward again next year as we work toward keeping Walcha Council strong and independent. I thank you for the support I have received over the past year and look forward to a prosperous year for Walcha in 2015.
My Christmas wish is that you have lashings of all you need with some special treats thrown in along the way!
