New England won the weed management category for local government area populations between 20,000 to 60,000 people.
The awards recognise outstanding achievements by local government in managing and protecting the environment. The authority was represented at the awards ceremony, held at the University of Technology, Sydney, by the chairwoman Maria Woods and weeds officer Josh Biddle.
Ms Woods said that “we are very honoured to receive this prestigious award for the Integrated Aerial Surveillance Pilot Project being undertaken by the Authority which will greatly enhance the future of property inspections and weed mapping”.
This project involves the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and multi-spectral imaging for aerial surveillance.
