They are with a group of vintage car enthusiasts and the posse consists of 8 MGs and 16 people.
Together the group will travel through 15 countries: Argentina, Chile, Peru, Equador, Colombo, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, USA and Canada. Seven of the cars also did the Cape to Cairo MG road trip which the Pethard’s completed last year.
“Some will complete the whole trip but a few, including us will stop at the Grand Canyon in USA and ship our cars home from Los Angeles,” said Cherie.
“In total we will drive approximately 30,000 kilometres.
“We have had a little trouble with Casper’s generator on the first day but hopefully we have that sorted out.
“We don’t need trouble where we are headed.”
On the trip from Pupuhuahi to Chile Chico last week Cherie describes the scenery as spectacular.
“How can I adequately describe the beauty of the country, and the horror of the roads which was 400 km of car rattling, bone shaking dirt,” she said.
“It was a nine hour day of the most glorious country. Carpets of multi coloured wild flowers, cathedrals of tall green trees, sky blue lakes, mountains tipped with snow, crashing white waterfalls, gorges with rushing rivers, all in a hurry to get to their destinations, curtains of moss, roads cut through roads precipitous, winding, some cut through towering solid rocks, panoramic views to lakes and far ranges.”
The couple are currently driving in the Patagonian wilderness and say to date the experience has been both exhausting and exhilarating. We will check in again with them in the coming weeks.
