Anne Martin was the recipient of the Senior Sportsperson award and Tyson Smith was named as the junior sportsperson.
Anne is a long standing and respected member of the Walcha sporting community, displaying excellent sportsmanship and skill at whatever sport she is involved in.
She has been involved as a player, parent or member of the committee in almost every sport in Walcha over the last 50 years including: touch football, rugby league, squash, indoor hockey, basketball, the Walcha Jockey Club and soccer.
For the past 20 years Anne has been a member of the New England Hockey Association representative teams competing at state championships.
These teams have often won state titles and Anne has often been state champion.
Anne has also been a member of the NSW Masters Hockey team that has won the Australian Championships in 2013 and 2014.
Accepting her award Anne said it was something she had wanted to receive for a long time.
“It is an award I always wanted to win so today is very special,” she said.
Tyson had a huge year last year. He won the junior (14 to 18 years) steer and bull rides at Singleton, Branxton, Coonamble and Gilgandra and placed at a number of other ABCRA rodeos.
This put him in ninth place in the ABCRA standings to compete at the national finals this month.
Tyson has also completed his level one certificate in touch football and refereed various senior and junior games in the local competition.
He is involved in indoor hockey and also plays rugby league and union.
