The crash left the Channel Seven and 2GB personality with a severed artery in one leg and other significant injuries, including bleeding on the brain.
After the accident in Sydney's south at Woolooware, Wheeler, 54, was airlifted to St George Hospital, Kogarah, where doctors placed him in an induced coma.
Executive producer of The Morning Show, Sarah Stinson, confirmed that Monday was a significant day in treatment of the Channel Seven and 2GB personality, adding that there were hopeful signs for her popular colleague.
Sports presenter Ben Damon took to Twitter with some positive comments after visiting his mate in hospital.

A 59-year-old woman was arrested and charged with negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm following the accident. She is due to appear in the Sutherland local court on February 19.
The woman's Mitsubishi Star wagon was also seized by police crash investigators.
