THE following story happened a little while ago but still is worthy of a mention. Around Christmas time Damian Timbs collected two full rib eyes on the bone from Prime Meats, which would have cost him a pretty penny. Butcher on duty Jonnie Cross was surprised when Timbsy called back to the shop shortly after to purchase a third cut of meat but do please read on.

WHILE at his place Damian asked his son Sam to grab him a grog from the beer fridge but when he did Sam unfortunately must have left the fridge door slightly ajar, just enough for one of Damo’s hounds to enter the drinks cooler and knock off one of the slabs of rib eye. There is nothing wrong with the odd ‘posh chop’ but I don’t think I could handle a rack of them but apparently the hound could.
THE boys must have had fun at golf last Sunday and you will probably read about David Sweeney and his five putt misadventure elsewhere in this Walcha News issue. Not far behind ‘Sween’ was veteran captain John McLaren who completed four jabs of his own on the ninth hole.
STILL on golf, I read with interest the new clubhouse duty roster in the back of the 2015 program book which has Neil Dark down to work his shift on February 29. Considering they only fall each leap year it may be a bit tricky in 2015, but there is no reason why ‘Darky’ shouldn’t consider shouting the bloke who does the roster a beer though.
ON a recent trip to the pool with the St Pat’s School Harry Marchant borrowed a pair of goggles and when he finished using them asked his mum Megan if she could return the goggles back to ‘Poog’ please. Megan soon informed Harry the blokes name wasn’t ‘Poog’ but was in fact ‘Coog’ and don’t worry Harry I have been called far worse things than that.
ELDEST grandson Simon Wellings pulled the same trick a while back but for a slightly different reason. Instead of calling me ‘Poppy Coog’ ‘Cyclone’ decided to roll it all into one – hence ‘Poog’.
WHEN St Pat’s arrived for their swimming carnival last week the weather wasn’t ideal but thankfully for them they persevered and finished with a good day. On arrival Liz Turner and Julie Partridge asked me what had I done to the weather to which they received the reply ‘I have just been on the phone to the big bloke upstairs and he assures me everything will be fine’. Ten minutes later it was sunshine all around, not that it really had anything to do with me.
CALLING all footy tipsters. Don’t forget the NRL competition isn’t far away with the opening round of matches to be played Thursday March 5 between the Broncos and Rabbitohs. Both the Bowling and Ex Services Clubs will be running their competitions as will be the three pubs Apsley, Newie and Commercial. Prime Meats are opening their competition up to the public not just their staff members with a few minor details to be sorted out before it goes ahead. Stay tuned.
A COUPLE of weekends ago Tony Overton travelled to Jindabyne to compete in the NSW Yard Dog Trial championships with his five hounds Nina, Claudia, Orca, Roo and Tess. He finished second in the Open with Nina to qualify for the championship trial and finished in the top 25 overall. The bloke that beat Tony in the open went on to win the overall event. There will be Dog Trials at the Walcha Show and Tony reckons those attending should have a look as they will be entertained at what they see.
WALCHA Roos president Peter Berry and New England Hotel 2IC Bob Denniss should be home by now after their big 10-day trip abroad to pat some sharks. Hopefully they are both still in one piece with plenty of yarns to be told and photos to be viewed.
THE Hospital Auxiliary is holding a Trivia Night on Saturday February 28 at the Bowling Club commencing at 7pm. There will be plenty of multiple choice questions so you don’t have to be capable of splitting atoms in your spare time to be part of it. Come on get a table of eight together for a fun night out while supporting a good cause. Names can be nominated with Walcha Citizen of the Year Vicki McIvor or Linda Cross. Don’t worry of you can’t make up a table of eight put your name down individually and a team will be fund for you.
THE Cowboys and spectators who attended the Bendemeer Rodeo last weekend probably didn’t think they would bump into Rooster’s legend Anthony Minichiello. Local young rough rider Tyson Smith got to spend a bit of time with the star player who retired at the end of last year at a very early morning barbecue of all places.
THE One Day International World Cup is in Australia and New Zealand with the Aussies opening their campaign when they defeated England and the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday. Prime Meats butcher Jonnie Cross and his dad, council highwayman ‘Simone’ were at the big game and if the image left is anything to go on they looked like they had a good time.
