The Walcha form continued at Quirindi last Friday with George Woodward ringing up a first with the consistent Opera Blu.
Opera Blu ran a very nice second on his home track, but proved he can hold his form with a good win at Quirindi.
Opera Blu took up his usual forward possie and kicked in the straight to hold them off at the finish.
Walcha Cup winner Latitat also proved his Walcha form was no fluke when he won the Quirindi Cup.
After watching the video of his Walcha Cup win I came to the conclusion he was a definite chance in the Quirindi Cup.
Jockey Leanne Henry made a forward move at Walcha from the 400 metre mark, continuing that run all the way into the straight, taking the lead right on the line.
The extra 200 metres of the Quirindi Cup looked an ideal task for Latitat but his backers would have been having a heart attack when Leanne Henry took off on him at the 900 metres.
She made a lightning move to take the lead at that point and one would have thought the swift move would have taken the wind out of him.
But he fought on doggedly after being headed by Collar, half way down the straight, coming away on the line and once again at the very good odds of $18.
Plans are to start him in the Guyra Cup at Armidale on March 1, but that will mean he comes back in distance which is usually frowned upon in racing circles with many a punters shying off horses coming back in distance.
One would have thought he would be better placed in the Armidale Cup prelude with a vision of starting him in the cup over the more suitable distance of 1900 metres.
Well until I return, good punting and follow the Walcha form whatever you do!
