Walcha Show Society’s publicity officer Peter Sendall said overall this year’s show was great.
“The number of people through the gate were pretty good, particularly on Saturday,” he said.
The Red Angus Feature drew some great entries in the cattle classes, although there wasn’t quite the same number of entries compared with last year’s New England beef extravaganza.
“The lamb section was very good with 140 lambs and the merinos were well supported with numerous entries from five local studs,” Mr Sendall said.
“There was a lot of interest in the wool forum with about 100 squeezing into the sheep section to listen to the speakers.
“The cook-off was a crowd pleaser with the boys - Peter King, Tony Barnet, Ian Kerr and Jock Nivison winning by three points.
“The side shows were just as good as ever, with maybe a couple more than last year. Overall the gate takings were up by a few hundred dollars.”
The re-vamped poultry pavilion also looked fantastic.
The iconic peanut drop has returned, making Walcha the only show in NSW to host an aerial drop. The photo of the drop was taken by nomadic wildlife photographer Ron Keough, who has settled in Walcha for a couple of years. While attending the Walcha Show last Saturday he snapped this picture of the much loved peanut drop.
It was amazing considering he took it from the ground – about 1.5 kilometres away! Ron also enjoys restoring old photographs and he won First Prize in this category at this year’s show.
Members of the Eye of the Eagle Kung Fu put on a demonstration on Saturday afternoon and the New Birds fashion parade proved popular as well.
As always, Mr Sendall said the two biggest crowd pleasers were the demolition derby and the fireworks.
The Walcha News will publish show section results over the coming weeks.
