With just under 3000 cattle yarded, competition was tough for the prestigious title, which this year included a category for the best pen of heifers.
Tony and his son Iva took home more than $1500 in Virbac product, $500 in cash from the Tamworth Livestock Selling Agents, two trophies and their name on the perpetual trophy and honour board after winning both the steer and heifer titles.
They were delighted with the double win and Tony says that while this year’s draft was lighter, prices were well up on their top price from last year. Despite another tough season the steers and heifers were both up at least $200 from the same time last year.
The champion pen of angus steers sold for $905 while the reserve champion pen, also Angus, sold by NLP on account of Roger and Geraldine Bomford, “Cotswold” Barraba topped the steers for the sale at $975.
While Angus dominated the steers, the champion pen of heifers went to the Hillside Park charolais females.
They made $765 but were beaten in price by angus heifers that sold for $800. The reserve champion pen of heifers, sold by IML on account Shellden Pty Ltd made $730.
