The area the competition covers runs from Tenterfield in the north to Walcha in the south, Inverell in the west to Glen Innes and Guyra in the east and all towns in between. However Walcha is the only town with sand greens.
The event was held over three days From May 5 to 7 at Walcha Golf Course and while organisers say the fields were down a bit with 40 players on the Tuesday, 45 players on the Wednesday and 50 players for the foursomes on the Thursday but the standard of players was excellent.
“Amanda Carr the Armidale ladies golf champion won the championship and it was great for Walcha to have the cream of the Armidale golfing crop here in Walcha,” NEDGA president Penny King said.
The Mary White Cup is the oldest trophy in the NEDGA collection of silver which dates back to 1929.
The four best nett scores on the first day were won by Walcha with Caroline Street, Pip Leake, Barb Mulligan and Sally McCormack taking out the honour.
The Fenwicke trophy was presented by Miss BC Fenwicke in 1957 for the best nett score and this year it was presented to Victoria Heffernan of Walcha.
