The Walcha Joeys defeated YCW 32-8 in the grand final that year, with Andrew Burnett scoring a hat trick of tries and Robert Morris two of his own.
Both those players, along with Michael Drew and Craig Partridge were also members of the Walcha Roos team that won the Group 4 Second Division competition in 1994, after rounding up South Tamworth 32-20 under the leadership of captain coach Andrew Burnett.
Three members of the 1987 Joeys squad – Peter Berry, Jason Naylor and Simon Hoy – were in the 1994 Roos reserve grade team that went down 25-6 to South Tamworth.
Current Roos president Peter Berry has been working behind the scenes in a bid to get both winning teams back to Walcha on Saturday, July 4, when the Roos do battle with the Uralla Tigers here at the Park.
Although there won’t be any formal functions held, the reunion has been opened up to anyone who has been a player, supporter or committee person of the Walcha Rugby League Club. We hope to see you there.
