WELL DONE to Jenny Hoy on becoming the fourth Walcha Basketball life member after she was honoured at the Association presentations following the recent grand finals. Jenny has been involved with basketball here in Walcha for over 30 years and thoroughly deserves her award. Jenny joins Don Hoy, Sandra Laurie and Robert Watts as life members.
THE WALCHA RAMS held their annual presentations on Friday night and Ed Churchill was named Best and Fairest Player of the season and Will Fletcher Players’ Player. In Reggies Jack Wake took out the Best and Fairest while Joe Makeham picked up Players’ Player and also the U/19 Best and Fairest player.
This year’s ‘Harry’ (named in memory of the late Harry Chester) went to Rodger Vanderhock and Bevis Hoy.
Highest Point Scorer went to Simon Newton and Pete Young picked up the new Best Defender trophy. Most Improved Player in the club was judged to be Hayden Jarmen. Well done boys.
THE ROOS and Jillaroos held their prize giving the following night where co-captain Jason Latham finished Best and Fairest, Lachlan Brown Players’ Player, Lachlan Laurie won the Coaches (Ron Latham and Gary Natty) Award and Berry Green took home the Brian Sweeney Memorial Most Improved trophy.
JILLAROOS Captain Robyn Broadbent streeted the field in the Best and Fairest, finished equal Players Player with Nicola Hoy while Kristy Lee Fogarty (famous for scoring a try off the bench this year) received the Most Improved and Bonnie Brown the Coach’s Award presented by coach Chris Cooney.
FOOTY season is now over and it is time to dust off the cricket gear. Local cricket commences Saturday 8th October where Rugby League take on Kentucky at the Park, Colts do battle with Round Swamp at John Oxley while Uralla have the bye. First round games will be played under the Twenty/20 format.
GOLF REPORT
No Competition golf last Sunday 19th due to the inclement weather but a few players contested a skins game where Wayne Brennan and Don Brooks were the most successful over the 13 holes they managed to get in before the rain came.
Conditions were better on Saturday where David Dunn won the 9 hole weekly stableford event after he accumulated 18 points while Jenny Lisle took out the ladies division after locking up 12 points.
Six Walcha players travelled to Narromine last weekend where they played on Saturday only as Sunday was washed out.
Owen Presnell and Doug McDonald the NSW Mens Veteran championships but were declared Saturday winners after the three pairs that finished higher than them picked the overall prizes following the wash out.
Simeon Cross and Col Berry completed 35 points while in the Ladies Social Competition. Cheryl McDonald came in third on 35 points and Julie Presnell tallied 34 points which included a N.T.P on the 10th hole.
Here on the home front the Regional Australia Bank stroke Medal round for a trophy donated by Barry Hoad has been rescheduled for this Sunday.
BIll Fletcher will be on Clubhouse Duty.
The Walcha Vets Open scheduled for last Thursday was washed out and has been rescheduled for this Thursday with a 9am registration for a 9.30am shotgun start.
